CARBONDALE (AP) — A 19-year old Carbondale man will spend 25 years in prison for a shooting that seriously injured one
person outside a high school.
Omari Tinsley was sentenced Wednesday in the January 27, 2014, shooting at Rebound High School in Carbondale. He was convicted of aggravated battery with a firearm.
He also was initially charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Tinsley shot a fellow student’s father in the stomach following an altercation with the man’s son in the school parking lot.
The Southern Illinoisan reports Jerome Merriweather suffered injuries in the shooting that will require long-term care.
