MOUNT VERNON — Patsy L. Smith-McGarrity, 84, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 5:30 a.m. May 17, 2023, at Mount Vernon Health Care Center. She was born August 30, 1938, in Saint Louis, Missouri to the late Riley K. and Maurine Alice (Wilson) Smith.

Patsy first married James F. Smith. He preceded her in death in 1991. She later married J.L. McGarrity in September 1998 in Mount Vernon. In addition to her husband of 24 years, Patsy is survived by her daughters, Donna Morris of Springhill, Florida, Elizabeth Navarrette of Selma, Texas, Deborah Rodriguez of Springhill, Florida, and Patty Dorris and husband, John of Ottawa, Illinois; son, Bob Smith and wife, Nancy of Salem, Illinois; brother, Mike Rich and wife, Bea of Mount Vernon; sisters, Sharon Tschirhart and husband, Al of Boerne, Texas and Beverly Sloan of West Frankfort, Illinois; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and first husband, Patsy was preceded in death by her siblings, Terry Rich, Charlie Smith, Junior Smith, and Beverly Sloan; and one granddaughter.

A Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2023, at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Brian Fuller officiating.
