SALEM – A Salem woman was transported to a burn center Saturday night after she suffered burns to her hand when becoming trapped in her home by a fire.

The woman reported discovering the fire near the front door of her home in the 500 block of West McMackin.

Her back door reportedly didn’t work so she closed herself in the bathroom and called for help.

Upon their arrival at the home, firefighters reportedly found heavy smoke and flames in the front of the home.

Firefighters knocked down the flames and rescued the woman from her home. She was initially transported to Salem Township Hospital for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation but was later transferred to a burn center.

The State Fire Marshal has been called to determine the cause of the fire, but reports indicate power had been restored to that block a short time before the fire.
