MOUNT VERNON — Valadia “Val” Harbor, 78, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 5:14 pm June 28, 2023, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

She was born November 27, 1944, in Olmsted, Illinois to the late Dossie and Mary Lee (Ray) Fletcher. Valadia married Robert “Catfish” Harbor. He preceded her in death on December 23, 2016. Valadia is survived by her sons, Robert “Little Fish” Winston, Jr. of Mt. Vernon, Johnny Winston, of California and Armond Redman of Geogia; daughters, Katina Harbor of Mt Vernon,  CashJuan Harbor, and Zayveance Harbor; granddaughter, Ne’Veah Harbor-Daniels; great-grandchildren, Zayden Ray Harbor, Zayven Harbor, Zaymere Harbor, and Braylee Morgan Harbor; siblings, Beverly Fletcher of Forest Park, Illinois, and Fredrick Hicks of Mt. Vernon; and host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Val was preceded in death by her sons, Glenn Winston and Charles Winston; siblings, Harold Doby, Dorsey Fletcher, Kenneth Fletcher, Raymond Winston, Betty Mack; and a special niece, Carolyn Tolbert.

Valadia was a devoted member of Christian Fellowship Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and auntie. Valadia will be deeply missed. She was a great cook and often made great cakes and pies that would melt in your mouth. She made the best sweet tea and enjoyed cold Pepsi.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Reverend Tom Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Olmsted, Illinois.
