JEFFERSON COUNTY — Local groups, churches, organizations, and individuals are being asked to take time this holiday season to show their appreciation to Illinois veterans by helping write notes on Christmas Veteran’s cards.

According to former Mt. Vernon mayor David Keen, he’s working in conjunction with the Illinois Dept of Human Services, Senator Terri Bryant, Representative Dave Severin, and Mt. Vernon City Councilman Donte Moore to ensure cards are sent to as many veterans as possible this holiday season.

“It is very important during this Christmas season to let those who have sacrificed most for us, how very much they mean to us. Our veterans have given of themselves through time, sweat, and blood to ensure our freedoms and safety. For that reason I’m pleased to partner in the efforts to get 2000 warm Christmas greetings to our veterans,” says Sen. Terri Bryant.

Keen says he has about 300 Christmas for Heroes cards remaining from his original 2,000 and it costs nothing to help in this worthy cause, but he will need to return the cards to IDHS by December 8 so they can be sent to Illinois veterans.

Please contact Dave Keen at 618-316-9502 to request a stack of cards.
