WASHINGTON COUNTY — Nashville police arrested three people over the weekend after a traffic stop resulted in the alleged discovery of both meth and fentanyl.

According to police reports, around 10:45 p.m. Friday, officers conducted a traffic stop at the Shell gas station on Mockingbird Road in Nashville.

Police identified the driver of the vehicle as 26-year-old Derek W. Cooper, of Du Quoin.  A male passenger initially provided false identification to police but was later identified as 45-year-old Patrick P. Stoffle, of Cicero. A female passenger was identified as 37-year-old Shannon M. Jones, of Du Quoin.

A search of the vehicle reportedly revealed drug paraphernalia and suspected fentanyl, so all three occupants were placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Jail.

Police say that at the jail, Stoffle was found to possess suspected methamphetamine and Cooper was found to possess approximately 50 capsules containing suspected fentanyl.

It was discovered that Stoffle had numerous warrants for his arrest, however only one was in geographical limitations for NPD to make the arrest on. Stoffle was served with a felony warrant out of Union County, IL.

Cooper was charged with multiple drug possession offenses, along with possession with the intent to deliver, and obstructing identification.

Jones was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

All three remain in the Washington County Jail awaiting their pre-trial release hearing.
