MOUNT VERNON — Billy Joe Hails, 67, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:15 pm May 10, 2024 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor. He was born December 22, 1956 in Mount Vernon to the late Harley and Rosemary (Severs) Hails.

Billy is survived by his children, BJ Hails and Mahala Hails, both of Oakdale, Illinois; sister, Margaret Lawrence and husband, Mark of Centralia, Illinois; brothers, Frankie Hails and Gary Hails, both of Mount Vernon; special friends, Vince Wagner and wife, Crystal; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his son, Joey Hails; brother, Johnny Hails; and sister, Connie Morgan.

Billy was a farmer and an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. Billy cherished the time he shared with his brothers in their band, “The Hails Boys” where he did vocals and guitar for many years. He was a loving father, brother, and friend. Billy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Memorial Service will follow at 5:00 pm with Mr. Marty Mills officiating.
