
MT. VERNON, IL — A juvenile from Mt. Vernon has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for the January shooting death of 16-year-old Julissa Mercedes Leslie. 16 year old Decoleis Dunn-Harris pleaded guilty to armed violence, with charges of armed violence through discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery dropped as part of a plea deal with prosecutors. He will serve at least 85% of the sentence and be placed under three years of supervision after his release. Dunn-Harris, who was on juvenile parole at the time of the shooting, was arrested following a 911 call and found with a handgun. Leslie later died from her injuries at the hospital.
