CENTRALIA, IL — Workers at the Murray Center in Centralia held an informational picket Friday, calling attention to safety concerns at the facility. Union president Martin Dickinson pointed to issues like extreme staff shortages, insufficient training, and a lack of protective measures for workers. The center houses up to 270 people with intellectual disabilities, many of whom have behavioral challenges. Workers reported a rise in injuries, including back, neck, and shoulder issues. The picketers are demanding action from the state and administration, seeking an end to short staffing, guaranteed lunch breaks, and better prevention of workplace violence.
