Ida Sue Robinson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this life at 2:13pm on January 14, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on May 26, 1941, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, she was the cherished daughter of Reverend Howard S. Flota and Beatrice Elizabeth (Skinner) Flota. Ida’s life was filled with love, kindness, and a steadfast faith that she shared with everyone around her.
Ida was raised in a nurturing home, where her parents instilled strong values and a deep sense of community and service. She attended Mt. Vernon Township High School, graduating with the Class of 1959, where she shone brightly as a majorette, dancer, and ballerina. Her grace and charm earned her the title of Homecoming Queen, reflecting her vibrant spirit and enthusiasm for life.
On June 9, 1959, Ida married her one true love, Ronald Robinson. Their love story spanned over 66 years, marked by unwavering support and a partnership built on mutual respect and affection. Together, they created a warm and loving home for their three children: Stephanie Sue Post and her husband Mike of Newburgh, Indiana; Teresa Marie Hahn and her husband Karl of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; and Ronald “Robby” W. Robinson Jr. and his wife Celeste (Osborn) of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Her children remember her as a prayer warrior and an encourager, who always listened and provided wise counsel.
Ida’s love extended beyond her children to her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She is survived by her grandchildren: Ashley Corbetta and her husband Brennon, Klayton Hahn and his wife Kayla, Kaleb, Karson, Justin, Joshua and his wife Regan, Jacob, Joel Robinson, Chelsey Browning and her husband Taylor, and Ciara Richardson and her husband Kyndel. Her heart expanded with the arrival of great-grandchildren: Luca Corbetta, Madelyn Hahn, Urijah, Zada, Xander, Judah, Leon Robinson, Crimson and Ollivander Browning, Camden and Kayson Osborn, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy.
Ida dedicated herself to her work as the manager of a floral and gift shop, where her creativity and talent in flower arranging shone through. She was a master bow maker, and her passion for gardening reflected her nurturing spirit. A member of the Junior Women’s Club and active in the Second Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, as well as the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Florida, she was deeply involved in her community, always seeking to uplift those around her.
Ida’s legacy is one of love, sacrifice, and devotion. She possessed an incredible ability to connect with others, making her a role model for her children and grandchildren. Her favorite scripture, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13), guided her through life’s challenges and inspired those she loved to persevere in their own endeavors.
Ida is preceded in death by her father, Reverend Howard S. Flota; her mother, Beatrice Elizabeth (Skinner) Flota; and her twin brother, Bobby Alfred Flota. Her absence leaves a void that will be felt deeply by all who knew her.
