MT. VERNON – If you have an Android phone or an iPhone, you know it has an Emergency SOS feature that allows you to quickly access 911 services. However, you may not be aware you have called 911 seeing this feature can increase pocket dials or hang up calls. This leads police to begin a callback and phone ping process and will promptly dispatch officers.
Mt. Vernon Police say they have received many 911 hang up/accidental calls.
To prevent this from happening, you can disable Emergency SOS on your phone.
If you do accidentally call 911, please stay on the line and give the dispatcher the necessary information.
