Marvin Dale Elliott, 77, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 9:31 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 18, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Emerald Edward and Mae Kathleen (Whitehead) Elliott. On June 3, 1967, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, he married Peggy Lee Warner, and she survives.

Marvin was a graduate of Rome Grade School and Mt. Vernon Township High School, and was of the Christian faith. He worked at General Radiator, Big River Zinc, and National Railway Equipment, and during union strike time, worked for Harper’s Gas Station, McCauley Dairy Farm, and also farming for Larry Schilling. He served in the United States Army, and was a member of King City Saddle Club, Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Gold Wing Touring Association, Black Powder Rifle Club, and was also a member of Oil, Chemical, and Atomic Workers International Union, Local 7-347. He enjoyed riding and showing horses, riding four wheelers, hunting, fishing, camping, floating, riding his Honda trike, dinner and ice cream rides, traveling, and watching westerns. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing guitar, raising livestock, including buffalo, and playing cards, dominos, and checkers.

In addition to his wife, Peggy Elliott, he is survived by children, Marcie R. Cates and husband Tony of Mt. Vernon, and Bryson D. Elliott of Alexandria, Virginia; grandchildren, Salina Cates Cole, Travis Cole, Sadie Cates, and Silas Cates, all of Mt. Vernon; great-grandchildren, Laurel Rayne Cole and Lincoln Elliott Cole of Mt. Vernon; and two sisters, Dorothy Elliott Tate and Linda Lou Elliott Mosher.

He was preceded in death by a son, Craig A. Elliott; his parents, Emerald and Mae Elliott; brothers, Dawsey Elliott, Donald Elliott, Dennis Elliott, and Max Elliott; sisters, Dolores Elliott Johnson and Della Elliott Justice; In-laws, Harry and Hazel Warner; brothers-in-law, Charles Tate, Harry Tracy Johnson, Bill Mosher, Stewart Randy Warner, and George Justice; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Dottie) Elliott; and nieces, Georgia Mae Justice, Melissa Alvis Helms, Casey Johnson, Brenda Tate McGhee, Carol Tate Keele, Linda Rader Doss, and Christy Elliott.

A public visitation for Mr. Elliott will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. Following the visitation, cremation rites will be accorded.
