John E. Scrivner, age 100 of Salem, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at his home.

John was born on November 14, 1924 in Dahlgren, Illinois, the son of William Riley and Diana (Chatelain) Scrivner.   He married Joyce (Revis) Bundy on April 26, 2013 at the Salem First Baptist Church and together they shared 12 years united in marriage.

Survivors include his wife Joyce of Salem; his children, Rebecca (Ron) Gadus of Fort Worth, Texas, Sara Warren of Salem, John Scott (Brenda) Scrivner of Hoylton, Kent (Marie) Scrivner of Victoria, Texas; step children, Ken (Ute) Smith of Salem, Lisa (Tony) Stanford of Iuka, Kenya Loyd of Centralia, Greg (Jennifer) Bundy of Ackworth, Georgia, Brett (Angie) Bundy of Webb City, Missouri, and Carolyn (Thomas) Fischer of Brewton, Alabama; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley and Diana; a brother, Rozier Scrivner; sisters, Alma Graham, Gladys Scrivner, Reba Aydt, and Minnie Sneed.

John honorably served his county as a pilot in the Army Air Corp during World War II.

John was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Salem for many years, where he served in various roles. He was also actively involved with the Salem Ministerial Alliance, helping with the food pantry for many years. Professionally, John worked in sales and advertising at WJBD Radio in Salem until retiring, then he worked at Max Dye in Salem.  In his free time, he enjoyed flying and spending time working in his yard.

Funeral services for John E. Scrivner will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Salem with Dr. Andy DeWitt officiating.  Burial will follow at East Lawn Cemetery with military rites by the Salem American Legion.  There will be a visitation held at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.   Memorial contributions can be made to the Salem First Baptist Church and will be received at the church or at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences and memories can be left at www.CrouseFH.com.
