Phyllis (Byars) Smith, beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished grandma, and faithful servant of Christ, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on April 11, 2025 at the age of 71.

Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Steve Smith; son, Shane Smith and wife, Ashley of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter, Sarah Watts and husband, Traven of Ina, Illinois; granddaughters, Afton, Everly and Stella; grandson, Syler; brother, Don Byars and wife, Jane of Mount Vernon, Illinois; sister, Shirley Wilson and husband, Max of Dix, Illinois; several nieces and nephews whom she was very close to and an extended family member, Barby Sells Palmer.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Fay (McMeen) Byars; father and mother-in-law, Roger and Vera Smith and brother, Bill Byars.

Phyllis was employed at Bank of America for many years and later Banterra Bank. She spent her time caring for family, traveling with her husband, loved flowers and gardening, and was a talented artist. She enjoyed her ladies exercise group and Bible studies at church.

A true reflection of Martha from the Bible, Phyllis showed her love in quiet acts of service. She poured herself into caring for her family and friends – cooking, comforting and making sure everyone felt at home.

Though she rarely sought the spotlight, her strength and faith lit up the lives of everyone around her. Through every joy and hardship, her trust in Jesus never wavered. Her Bible was worn, her prayers constant, and her legacy of faith unshakable.

We find comfort knowing that she is now at peace, rejoicing in heaven, and hearing the words “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
