MOUNT VERNON — Helen L. Cooper, 87, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 2:00 am June 30, 2023, at her home.

She was born December 10, 1935, in Harviell, Missouri to the late Virgil and Marie (Chatman) Crunk. Helen married Thomas Dale “Tom” Cooper on July 20, 1963, in Salem, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly 60 years of marriage.

In addition to her beloved husband, Helen is survived by her children, Chuck Branch and wife, Debbie of Kell, Illinois, Alan Cooper and wife, Joanie of Mount Vernon, Julie Perrin and husband, Kevin of Mount Vernon, and Laura Cooper and significant other, John Williams of Mount Vernon; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Cooper of Wayne City, Illinois; grandchildren, Scott Storey, Curtis Branch, Caleb Branch, Hanah Cooper, Noah Cooper, Jeffrey Cooper, Michael Cooper, Cynthia Travis, Rachael Stanley, Brady McCowen, and Dena McCowen; several great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her son, James C. Cooper; and great-granddaughter, Taylor Neleh Travis; and siblings, Robert Crunk, Virgil Crunk, Jr., Edna Ellis, Velma Hoffman, and Thelma Davis. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She will be deeply missed.

A Visitation will be held Sunday, July 2, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 3, 2023, at 10:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home with Reverend Bud Storey officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
