MOUNT VERNON — Marie Antionette Flanagan, 89, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:02 pm September 11, 2023 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was born September 27, 1933 in Waltonville, Illinois to the late Roy Morton and Eithel (Ferguson) Wilson. Marie married Alva Eugene Flanagan on December 11, 1954 in Mississippi. He preceded her in death on February 1999.

Marie is survived by her son, Richard Eugene Sadler (Jean); daughter, Patricia Lynne Knott of Bonnie, Illinois; sister, Dorothy Donoho; grandchildren, Jeffrey Alan and Amanda Knott, Stephanie Marie and Frederick Zobel, Richard Joseph Burque, Douglas W. Sadler, and Charles and Lana Sadler; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by her children, David Randall Jarvis, Michael Lee Flanagan, and Bonnie Ann Flanagan; son-in-law, James D. Knott; and siblings, Ardyce, Winona, Nelda, Katherine, Louise, Roy Lee, and Winston.

Marie enjoyed playing bingo and making holiday meals for her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 18, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Old Shiloh Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Marie’s honor to the family, in care of Rick Sadler.
