MT. VERNON, IL — Flames that were intensified by the high winds destroyed a home southwest of Mt. Vernon early Wednesday morning. The blaze started on the exterior of the John Paul Braswell home on East Radius Road and quickly spread. Braswell and another occupant were able to escape safely but lost all their possessions. An investigation is now underway into the cause.
